The Demand for PFAS Sampling
The demand for PFAS sampling has increased significantly. PFAS stands for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances. PFAS do not degrade, or only degrade very slowly, in the environment and can be toxic. Through air or wastewater, PFAS from production processes can enter the environment.
EPA OTM 45: The Standard for Emission Sampling
For air emission sampling, reference is often made to EPA OTM 45. This method outlines the procedure for sampling PFAS from stationary source emissions.
The Sampling Procedure
The basis is isokinetic sampling using a heated probe and a heated filter holder in accordance with NEN-EN 13284-1. This is followed by condensation steps, and PFAS are absorbed in an XAD-2 column and a series of impingers (gas wash bottles). To detect possible breakthrough, an additional XAD-2 column is placed after the last impinger.
Ravebo B.V. Offers Complete OTM 45-Compliant Configuration
For this type of sampling, Ravebo B.V. provides a complete configuration in accordance with OTM 45: The foundation is the proven automatic isokinetic sampler model ST5. The sampling probe and heated filter housing include a practical suspension system for the glass condenser. Cooling for both the condenser and the impinger bottles is provided by the high-capacity cooler model SC-6.
