Gas Analysis and Gas Detection for Safety, Process Optimization, and Emission Measurement

Technologies are continuously being developed in the field of online measurement techniques for real-time determination of gas concentrations. In the fields of safety, process technology, and environment, gas detection and online and inline gas analysis are widely applied.

Gas Detection for Safety and Health

To ensure the safety of employees from exposure to certain gases or gas mixtures, gas detection is applied. When gas is detected and certain levels are exceeded, alarms go off and measures are taken. Although portable gas detection is available, our expertise mainly lies in stationary gas detection. Ravebo is your partner for advice, supply, installation, commissioning, and periodic calibrations of stationary gas detection.

Measurement Principles for Stationary Gas Detection

For stationary gas detection, we look at the specific situation and seek an optimal measurement technical solution. We apply different measurement principles:

  • EC: Electrochemical cell (ElectroChemical)
  • NDIR: Infrared cell (Non Dispersive Infra Red)
  • CC: Catalytic sensor (Catalytic Combustion)
  • SS or MO: Solid state or Metal oxide sensor

The sensors are placed in a transmitter. Different transmitters together form a system, possibly with one or more controllers. The controllers can power the transmitters, read them, trigger alarms, and control relays. It is also possible that the factory itself provides the power supply for the transmitter and reads the analog or digital signal.

Gas Analysis for Processes and Emissions

Monitoring gases in processes and emission streams requires high accuracy. Unlike gas detection, here measurements are not taken in relatively clean air but in various gas compositions. The gas analyzers used for this purpose are robust, reliable, and accurate. Depending on the application and the gas matrix, we propose a suitable technology and corresponding analyzer.

Techniques for Online Gas Analysis

For online gas analysis in processes and emissions, we apply the following techniques:

  • FTIR: Infrared technology (Fourier Transformation Infra Red)
  • NDIR: Infrared measuring cell with specific wavelength (Non Dispersive Infra Red)
  • FID: Flame ionization analyzer for TVOC and/or methane measurements (Flame Ionisation Detector)
  • Zirconium: Paramagnetic or electrochemical cell for oxygen analysis
